RUNNING OF THE BULL 2008!!

Here we go! The most anticipated day of the year is here and I have ordered up an absolute perfect weather forecast for the big day! This Saturday is The Starboard's DOZENTH ANNUAL RUNNING OF THE BULL. Most all of you have taken part in this huge day, as people from literally around the World will be coming into town to take part in this DOZENTH ANNUAL Bull Run! This year, for the first time ever, we have been granted permission to rope off the entire parking lot, and use this as extra space as our building cannot house all of you that come to participate in the Bull Run. Hopefully this will make the day even more enjoyable, and to make it even better, we are going to have the incredible LauraLea & Tripp Fabulous playing outside on Saturday afternoon from 3-6pm, so once the run down the beach is over, you can enjoy many upon many ice cold Bud Lights while listening to LauraLea! The Parking Lot will be open to serve you all by 10am Saturday, we will bring down our smokers from Bethany Blues BBQ to smoke up some Pulled Pork and Brisket to feed everyone throughout the afternoon, by Noon...this place should be mobbed!

An Open Letter To The Starboard About The Hippie Menace Known As P.E.T.A.C.

This Saturday will see the Dozenth Annual Dewey Beach Running of the Bull celebrated in all of its pageantry and loyal dedication to the Starboard and Dewey Beach. Unfortunately, it will once again be "protested" by bleeding hearts known as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animal Costumes (or P.E.T.A.C., as they put it for their dim witted constituents who can't remember more than four words at a time and then only if written on placards).

So far the Starboard and the town of Dewey have been very patient with these costume hugging freaks. Is that the right approach? Let's think this through. The protesters claim they have nothing against the Starboard, or the values of Deweymocracy that it champions. But can you support the bar while protesting the bar event? I say no. Hate the run, hate the runners, and the bar they represent.

As each brave participant waves his or her red bandana, in celebration of Dewey, and for all that it stands, these blame-the-Starboard-firsters are out questioning the values of the Starboard, attacking Dewey Beach, a way of life... OUR way of life. Do you want that way of life threatened here in our own parking lot? On our own barstools?

So, Starboard, when your bouncers and your bartenders and your barbacks see these malcontents coming on Saturday, remember, it may be a free country, but freedom isn't free. Some people deserve cover charges, some people deserve to be cut off early, and some people do NOT deserve VIP cards. The Starboard, love it or leave it, or get kicked out! God bless Dewey and God bless America!

Sounds like everything will be in place this year, the protestors, the Matador (played by DJ Smoky this year), the Sunshine, the cold Bud Light, and thousands of participants as we invite all of you to take part and help us raise money for our local lifeguards and police department. We will once again have white Bull Running T-Shirts available for sale for $10, which 100% of that will be a donation to our Town of Dewey Beach and the services that help keep us all safe while here enjoying the Dewey Beach we all love!

So see each and every one of you here at The Starboard bright and early this coming Saturday, as the place is sure to be nuts well before 12 Noon! The run itself will take place at 2pm, with the Matador/Bull Fight immediately following. Then the great music of LauraLea & Tripp Fabulous on our outdoor stage!

SUICIDE SUNDAY

The day after the bull run this weekend, plenty of you will be on hand to enjoy our weekly Suicide Sunday parties. Elvis will be in the building around Noon to do his show, then Doug Segree will be out on the deck stage, and the night will wrap up with our good friends JIMI SMOOTH & THE HIT TIME on stage at 9pm Sunday night. If you have not had a Starboard Bloody Mary in a while, make this the day to stop in and try a sample of our world famous Bloody Mary Smorgasbord!!

FASTEST BARTENDER COMPETITION

Last night, we had our 1st in a 3 week Fastest Bartender Competition. I was shocked at the size of the crowd that came out for this, the competition was fierce as we had bartenders from Ocean City, Virginia, New Jersey, and our local friends from Nalu, Porcini House, and a few others right here at the beach. This coming Tuesday will be another qualifier round as we expect some Starboard, Rusty Rudder, and Lighthouse bartenders to jump into the competition, as we could not fit them into this week's line up. So drop by if you are here this Tuesday night, it is quite entertaining!

WINGS TO GO SUICIDE WING EATING CONTEST

Next Sunday, July 20th will be our annual Suicide Wing Eating Contest here on the Starboard deck at promptly 3pm. To sign up, be here by 1pm on Sunday, and we will get you entered into this years 30 minute contest. You will have 30 minutes to eat as many Suicide Wings as you can, with nothing else to eat or drink. Always a good idea to bring a friend along to help keep your face clean so the burn doesn't hurt too much!!
